When we whacked a big buck with our Bonneville, we took the badly dented vehicle to PRECISION AUTO BODY in Hancock. Owner Bernie Gordon got right on it, fixed it up in no time flat. Our car looked brand new. And at a price my insurance company found very attractive. Bernie's got himself a spanking new facility on Route One. Neatest, cleanest, best equipped body shop around. They call themselves collision specialists. I call them miracle men.
The folks at RUSSELL'S MARINE in Stockton Springs are happy to help new sailors. If you're a novice, they know you have many questions. Well, consider them your boating answer source. They'll answer your questions in a low pressure, friendly way. They can help you select the right sailboat for the type of sailing you're envisioning. To them, you're not a one-time potential buyer. Instead, you're a fellow sailor and a potential lifelong customer. They want you to return again and again because you were treated so well with each and every interaction.
Your Sign is often completely responsible for the first impression your company makes. You need to make a good one. With complete professionalism, SIERRA SIGNS AND DESIGNS in Hacock will put your best foot forward. They do both 2-D and 3-D interior and exterior signs, vinyl graphics and installation, custom vehicle graphics and magnetics, banners, lawn signs and real estate signs. With a Sierra Sign, people will want to get to know you.
SOUTHWEST BOAT MARINE SERVICES in Southwest Harbor serves the individual needs of anybody with a boat. From metal fabrications and welding to underwater hull inspections, Southwest Boat is the company to turn to.
Kayakers staying at the SUNSET HOUSE B&B in Gouldsboro find access to both fresh and salt water.
Besides general auto repair, Tim Bybee of TDP AUTOMOTIVE on Rte 1 in Steuben has the area's only Mustang Dynomometer, the instrumentation high performance dragsters employ to coax the most from their machines. ASE certified, Tim can fill your nitrous oxide tank and use his AFR meter to custom tune your ride. If you're intent on getting there in a hurry, Tim is your guy.
Looking for something hot? On Main Street in Ellsworth, THE MEX has been serving its memorable sauce since 1979. Call 207-667-4494.
A major attraction is the OCEANARIUM on Route 3 in Bar Harbor. Featured are a lobster hatchery, a lobster museum, and a marsh walk. Most often there's a lobsterman on hand to explain the mysteries of his venerable trade. The Oceanariums (there is a second one in Southwest Harbor) are run by David and Audrey Mills, good people who take their roles of teachers seriously.
The RIVERSIDE CAFE on Main Street In Ellsworth may not be beside the river exactly (it used to be, but it moved awhile back to its present Main Street location), but we can heartily recommend the food. Yankee Magazine called the Riverside's crab cakes New England's Best.
If you stay on Rte 1 east of Ellsworth, you'll come to RUTH AND WIMPY'S KITCHEN where quite often you can get the area's best deal on a lobster dinner. Here also is Hancocks foremost celebrity Wilbur the Lobster, the world's biggest lobster sculpture. A few years ago, Roadway Express included Wilbur on its list of the 12 most interesting things to see in the United States. The 20-foot, fiberglass creation has been the subject of countless articles and mentions in tourist-related publications. Kirstie Alley offered Wimpy a blank check for Wilbur, but he turned her down. "Thats our logo," he pointed out.
